The Joys of Life
Perhaps you may count the joys of life differently than me
but, most will agree the greatest are these.
The first kiss and your one true love,
a firstborn child and many more to come.
Through life at lease one true friend,
one who’ll be with you until the very end.
The taste of homemade ice cream on a hot summer day,
the sound of bells ringing upon a Christmas sleigh.
A walk on the beach and a place to play and swim,
riding a bike like a bird on the wind.
Mom’s home cooking, the smell of grandpa’s pipe,
learning how to fish or fly your first box kite.
Listening to old stories from families long ago,
going to the drive-in to watch a picture show.
The sound of rain upon the old rooftop,
an ice cold drink from a bottle of pop.
The laughter of children, the crying of babes,
grandchildren on your knees, how sweet are the days.
Growing old together, sharing moments with close friends,
staying faithful to God ‘til we make it to the end.
I can see heaven now nearing into view,
what joy will be awaiting there for me and for you.
Perhaps you may count the joys of life differently than me,
but, most will agree the greatest are these.
Little Angel Upon the Father's Knee
We planned so carefully that you would come to be
that sweet little angel upon your father’s knee.
I longed to caress you upon my breast,
and smell the sweetness of your breath.
I long to see your precious little face
but, you had to leave us in such haste.
I never kissed your rosey little cheek,
or held your tiny hands so soft and meek.
We love you little angel with all our heart
but, God chose from this life you must part.
I know He has a better plan,
though in myheart I don’t understand.
But, now I know that you were planned to be,
that sweet little angel upon the Father’s knee.
that sweet little angel upon your father’s knee.
I longed to caress you upon my breast,
and smell the sweetness of your breath.

A Poet and a Potter
A poet and a potter are similar you see,
for both are quite amazing to me.
One will evolve with pen and prose,
the other with a wheel and clay to mold.
It all starts from absolutely nothing,
and soon it becomes uniquely something.
A poet’s thought and a wandering word,
the clay cries to the potter to heard.
The poet gives form in a written notion,
the potter begins with a skillful motion.
From the heart of an artist their work emerges,
from a soul felt passion and emotional urges.
Skillfully the master adds the finishing touch,
upon the project he admires so much.
At last, a masterpiece is born,
seeking admiration in a world of scorn.
Hoping others will find the same attraction,
in the creator’s final satisfaction.

Heaven's Just a Prayer Away
Heaven really isn’t that far away,
for in this life I know I’ll never stray.
Until then my daily chores and cares
are whispered away softly in a moments prayer.
Angels gather and hover ‘round
to carry my burden homeward bound.
With a sigh, a cry and a tearful note,
the devil stands by with a glaring gloat.
He assumes I’m under his lock and key
but, my Father rejoices when He finds me on my knees.
I lift my head singing His praises all the day long,
surrounded by His presence soon all my cares are gone.
At last I arise free from care and woe,
rejoicing all the more as onward I go.
Yes, heaven really isn’t so very far away,
I find it easily in prayer each and every day.
for in this life I know I’ll never stray.
Until then my daily chores and cares
are whispered away softly in a moments prayer.
Angels gather and hover ‘round
to carry my burden homeward bound.
With a sigh, a cry and a tearful note,
